Abuse Linux beta notes :
To get the most current version of this file point to
http://www.crack.com
see abuse.doc for info on command-line options. These docs are very
rough, so please try to tollerate the mispellings, and blatant lies,
we haven't even read them yet.
If you lock up during saving, gamma correction, or other file stuff
do a 'umask 111'. Also for SVGA version if you get a message about
not being able to open /dev/console do a 'chmod 666 /dev/console'
You need to run root for SVGA version. You might need to run root
for X11 if you play sound, I haven't checked this out. Also for X11,
make sure you turn off 3 mouse button emulation or you will have a real
hard time firing as X will not tell abuse you clicked until it is sure
you don't mean to press both. If clicking outside of the window is a
problem, use the -grab_pointer command line option which restrain the
pointer to the window, but will not allow you to do anything else
useful. **Be careful of this option, if the game locks for some
reason your only option is CTRL-ALT-BACKSPACE. If the SVGA version
crash and the keyboard appears screwed, type random keys until it
clears up. :)
Though this game does run hi-rez, you are REALLY spoiling the
game-play by doing so because you can see more than you are supposed
to. To get the most fun out of the game, I suggest you BEAT IT first
at 320x200 and then play hi-rez (cheating). Hi-rez was designed for
level editing, not playing, though no one will listen to me and play
it hi-rez anyway :) X players on pentiums can use "-2 -size 640 400"
to double pixels and see 320x200 blown up. 16bit X servers will not
work.
I you find a bug, please, please let us know. email to
abuse-bugs@crack.com. Please finger this address first to make sure
you have the current version. If it at all possible try to reproduce
it and tell us EXACTLY how you did it, which level you were playing
and what you were doing. If you are available to talk, please leave
your phone number and time of day you can be reached.
Note : version 0.32 & 0.33 have a problem with saving levels, to
fix until 0.34 delete the line (setq keep_back T) from
lisp/startup.lsp.
Because the net code is not finished yet, all security measures have
not been explored, so please be weary of running other peoples lisp
"patches". For the security anal, I would suggest not running them as
root unless you have looked at the code (as with any package you get).
We are currently taking email orders (finger abuse@crack.com),
Aug. 31, 1995 you may order by phone via our 800 number.
Have fun,
JC
PS. We don't have any credits in the game, but I'd really really like
to thank the GNU foundation for providing the world with the best programming
environment, free or otherwise. They really don't/can't get enough thanks.
Specifically I'd like to thank them for emacs, g++, and gdb.... great job!
While I have the mike, I'd also like to give thanks to Linus (how does he do
it?), the author of Voxware, and the author(s) of svgalib.
